February 18, 1917 – April 20, 2013
After years of good health Phillip died peacefully, in the company of his second wife, at Delta View Habilitation Centre. He is survived by his loving wife Vicki, of 19 years, his daughters and sons-in-law, Shelley (Arnie), Lindsay (Jerry), Kerry (John), Gayden (Jim), several grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Wilson and wife Hazel. Phil will also be sadly missed by Vicki's family, Pat (Don), Penny, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After 51 years of marriage, his first wife Helen passed away in 1993. Phil was born in Brandon, Manitoba and has always had a love for the great outdoors. He worked at many jobs but Gods' Lake Gold Mine was one he loved and he continued to visit that area to fish with his sons-in-law. When the war came he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941-1945 as a flying instructor. In 1944 he married Helen Kate Wood. After the war he attended U.B.C. and graduated as a mining engineer. Phil worked all over Canada, including the Yukon, eventually settling in Tsawwassen. He loved hiking, camping, swimming, bird watching and golf, and took full advantage of these while he spent winters at his place in Apache Junction Arizona. Phil was always a kind and gentle man, well-liked by his neighbors and loved by his extended family. He was a beloved husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He will be sadly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Saint David's Anglican Church, 1115 51A Street, Tsawwassen, BC, with a reception to follow.
