Anna Cantarella

CANTARELLA, ANNA; long time resident of Pontiac; died June 14, 2013 at McLaren Hospital in the Hospice Center; age 87; beloved wife of the late Lester Cantarella; loving mother of Rose (Harvey) Musket, Joe, John (Jennifer), Ed (Teresa) and Eva Cantarella; dear sister of Joseph Hofstatter; cherished grandmother of Anthony, Nicholas, Alexandra, Vicky, Joshua and Lisa. Born in 1926 in Czechoslovakia, Anna studied English for many years and earned a teaching degree before coming to this country. She later attended the University of Florida on a teacher exchange program where she met her future husband, Lester. A few years later, Anna and Lester moved to Michigan where Anna continued her education at Oakland University, receiving her U.S. teaching degree. While raising five children, Anna held several jobs, including teaching German in her home, driving a school bus and substitute teaching in schools in Southeastern Michigan. Anna loved good food, socializing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also a voracious reader and accomplished artist. Among her many art forms, Anna enjoyed painting on rocks. She was also active with the Unitarian Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the RIVERSIDE CHAPEL, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford. A Memorial Service, followed by a catered reception, will be held Sunday, June 23, at 1 p.m. at the Rochelle Park Condominium Clubhouse, 2250 Rochelle Park Drive, Rochester Hills, 48309, (South off Hamlin, between Crooks and Livernois).
