Carlo Serra Obituary
Serra, Carlo Joseph; age 85; passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 5, 2014. Born January 28, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, to John and Marie Serra. He attended Redford Union High School and graduated at the age of 17 to join the Army. On September 10, 1949, he married the love of his life, Virginia June Brandenburg. They were married 43 wonderful years until Virginia’s passing in 1992. He worked at Michigan Bell for over 40 years, starting by running phone lines and setting poles, and ultimately being responsible for over 300 phone offices throughout Michigan as a district switching manager where he was best known for his ability to “shoot trouble.” Carlo was a devout and very active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for over 60 years. Carlo will be especially remembered for his giving and gentle nature. He was a great organizer and would prioritize the needs of others. Most of all, he will be remembered for his big heart and large, warm hands. Carlo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia; son, Robert; both his parents, John and Marie; and younger brother, John. He is survived by his son, Steven Serra (Christine); daughter, Barbara Serra (David); daughter, Carol Westlake (Richard); and son, Michael Serra (Ellyn). Carlo was also a strong and loving role model to 13 grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, Stephanie, Nathaniel, Joshua, Kathryn, Jonathan, Jordan M., Lauren, Jordan C., Jacob, Courtney, and Delaney. He also touched the lives of four great grandchildren, Danielle, Jayden, Kenley, and Silas. Carlo is also survived by three sisters, Beatrice Hoffman, Elaine Schafer, and Linda Wroblewski. Visitation will be held at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home, 340 N. Pontiac Tr., Walled Lake, (3 blks. S. of Maple Rd.)Tuesday, July 8 from 2 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 9086 Hutchins Rd., White Lake on Wednesday, July 9 at 11 a.m. (In State 10 a.m.) The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mark Lebeis, Mike McGuire, Jayne Lobert, and the McLaren Hospice Staff.
