She was the daughter of Jose Barandiaran and Hortensia Meneses Diaz-Albertini. Hortensia is survived by her only daughter, Lisette (Palicio) Poletes; her son-in-law, George Poletes; and her grandson, James Poletes of Okemos, MI; brothers Billy (Isabel), Pepito; and sister, Annie (Mike); and her nieces and nephews, Miriam, Raul, Alexandra, Adrian, Jason, Christopher and Jacqui. She was predeceased by her parents; and her sister, Maria Elena Muller. In 1979 she started her own home-based company with just a phone and a filing cabinet. Her passion and dedication to teaching students Spanish, her native language, helped her business grow to international heights as one of the leading training, translations and expatriate services companies in the world for nearly 35 years. She was also a community activist in the fight against breast cancer. As a survivor herself, she supported Beaumont Hospital's Clinical Trials and volunteered in the Oncology division to educate patients and caregivers on the benefits of these treatments. She was an avid lover of animals, and supported organizations such as the Michigan Humane Society. Hortensia was a passionate and loving person whose positive energy could light up a room. She loved people and held an open heart to everyone she met. Friends, family, colleagues, clients and students may come celebrate the life of Hortensia on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at The Congregational Church of Birmingham with Reverend Louise R. Hortensia although I met you briefly I enjoyed talking with you and getting to know you. I hope you and your family had many joyful moments at your lakehouse in Highland that we sold you. God bless you and prayers to you and your family and Kim. Sorry to hear of your passing.

I am saddened to learn of Hortensia's passing. I met her several years ago when our company needed English taught to our foreign employees who just relocated to the U.S. I always thought about going back and visiting her to tell her "thank you" for all her help. I know she will be missed by all who knew her. She had a kind spirit and a great sense of humor. My heartfelt condolences to her family.
