Jewell Elaine Bowman

BOWMAN, JEWELL ELAINE; 92; of Oak Park; passed away April 13, 2013 at home with family at her side. Jewell was born on October 10, 1920 in Marine City; the daughter of Roy Sova and Neva (Cole) Sova. She was a 1937 graduate of Lake Orion High School and later owned and operated the Vogue Salon in Lake Orion. Jewell met Warren Bowman in 1939 while roller skating in Oxford, and they married in 1946. Jewell and Warren raised four children and after Warren's retirement, they returned to their love of skate dancing, a pastime they pursued well into their eighties. Jewell was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed raising flowers, often sharing them with passersby and the wait staff at local restaurants. She loved to travel, enjoyed backyard bird-watching, and loved spending time with her family. Her cheerful, optimistic outlook on life was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Jewell is survived by her children, Larry and Linda Bowman of Bonita Springs, Florida; Bruce Bowman of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Cathy and Bill Egerer of Grand Marais, Michigan; and Paul and Barbara Bowman of Bradenton, Florida; she also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lindsey (Carl) Lip, Scott Bowman, Elizabeth (Michael) Dreckman, and Valerie R. Bowman; and two great grandchildren, Abigail Dreckman and Mallory Lip; and a godson, Robert Sheardy, Jr. Jewell was predeceased by her parents; her siblings; and her beloved husband of 64 years, Warren M. Bowman. The family would like to thank special friends Christiana Wisseh and Sherri Lee for their gentle, compassionate care during Jewell's final years.
