Thomas A. Palmer Obituary
PALMER, THOMAS A.; Councilman for the City of Clawson and longtime resident; died Sunday, November 3, 2013 under the care of Beaumont Hospice. He was 71 years old. Tom was born August 4, 1942 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to parents, Edward and Clara Palmer. He was raised in Utica and graduated from Utica High School in 1960. Tom met the love of his life, Jean Elliotte and they married on October 2, 1965. During Tom's long professional career, he was the General Supervisor of General Motors Truck and Bus Plants #2 & #6 in Pontiac, retiring in September of 2004. Shortly after retiring, Tom began consulting for the GM–Lake Orion Plant. He worked until his cancer diagnosis in January of this year. Many colleagues throughout his career looked upon Tom as a mentor. Tom proudly served as a Councilman for the City of Clawson since 1973. He was past member of the Clawson Planning Commission and Clawson Downtown Development Authority. Tom was past-president of the Schalm Elementary School PTA and a former a member of the Southfield Community Players. He was a member of the Clawson Jaycees and a former Scout Master of Pack #1095 of Clawson. Tom was a Clawson youth baseball coach while his sons played baseball and a volunteer fire fighter for the City of Utica for many years. Tom enjoyed boating, golfing, antique cars, auto racing, and travel, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and many colleagues in the Clawson community. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Palmer; loving sons, John (Kristine) Palmer and Brian (Julie) Palmer; three grandchildren, Jack, Julia, and Samuel and two step-grandchildren, Sebastian and Stephanie. Thomas is preceded in death by his son, Kevin Palmer; parents, Edward and Clara Palmer, and half-brother and half-sister, Dean Schupeach and Eileen Lawrence. A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Friday at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment in Prestonville Cemetery, Shelby Township.
