Cynthia Lynn (Craig) Merz Obituary
MERZ, CYNTHIA LYNN (nee: CRAIG); born July 15, 1959. Beloved wife of Chuck Merz; daughter of the late Carol Schwendemann and Jack and Norma Craig passed away July 3, 2013. Cindy was a member of UAW Local 594 and retired from GM Truck in Pontiac. She was a 1977 graduate of Madison High School and received a BA in English from Wayne State University. With a sharp sense of progressive thought, Cindy was fierce in her defense of the underprivileged and a champion of the disfranchised. To hundreds of abused and homeless dogs and cats, she was their hero. She dearly loved wildlife, nature and digging in the dirt in her beautiful Hosta gardens. She loved a good scrabble game, the purr of a cat and the hug of a child. Cindy had a keen sense of the absurd and throughout her 45 month battle with ovarian cancer, her sense of humor never deserted her. She lived a rich and meaningful life, was loved by a terrific guy and many, many wonderful friends. A Remembrance Tribute will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013 at COATS VILLAGE FUNERAL HOME, Ortonville. Family will receive friends on Friday from 2 p.m. until the tribute service. Graveside Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at The Preserve of All Saints Cemetery, Waterford. In lieu of flowers, Cindy requests that donations be made, in her name, to Gilda's Club in Royal Oak (3517 Rochester Rd., Royal Oak, MI 48073) or go to
