Dirk Wallace Craft Obituary
Craft, Dirk Wallace; died at the age of 48; March 24, 2014; at City of Hope Hospital in California; after a three year illness. He was the son of Juanita Craft and the late James Craft. He is survived by his wife, Sande Alessi Craft and their two children, Kai and Shaelyn of California; his mother and step- father, James Hawisher of White Lake; sister, Krista Strongman; her husband, Scott and their two children, Brett and Miranda of Walled Lake; loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends. Dirk was born in Pontiac, MI, on December 7, 1965 and raised in White Lake Township. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1984. After graduation from Michigan State University in 1988, he moved to California where he was accepted into the DGA Trainee Program which he completed in 1991. Craft served as assistant director on more than fifty productions. His TV and film projects ranged from Mixology, Rizzoli and Isles, Nip/Tuck for seven seasons, Running with Scissors, Martial Law, Alien Nation, ER, Steel, Dinosaurs and the Crucible. He also directed episodes for Nip/Tuck and Burn Notice. Craft directed Skinheads in Love, a short film for which he won Best Director in the short film segment at the Independent Film makers Showcase April 13, 2014 in Boston. A Celebration of Dirk’s Life took place on March 28, 2014 in Agoura Hills, CA. A Graveside Service will be held at Oakland Hills Cemetery in Novi, MI this summer. Dirk, you lived your life to the fullest with courage and passion, and set a wonderful example for the rest of us. We love you and will miss you forever.
