JOHN McKEE, JR.; 97; of Somerset House at Oak Harbor, Vero Beach, FL; died May 9, 2012. Mr. McKee was born December 25,1914 in Detroit, MI. He lived in Birmingham and Orchard Lake much of his life before becoming a full time resident of Vero Beach, FL eleven years ago. John graduated from University of Michigan in 1937 where he met his wife, Eleanore Swan McKee. They spent 61 happy years together before her passing in 2001. While at U of M, he participated in track and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. John's career was in the advertising business. He managed the Detroit office of BBDO at the time of his retirement. He was a member of Orchard Lake Country Club and the Detroit Athletic Club. In Vero Beach, FL he belonged to Riomar Country Club and the Oak Harbor Club. John belonged to Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills and attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach, FL. Golf was one of John's great passions. With two holes in one to his credit, his favorite saying was "Better to be lucky than good"... how true. He also enjoyed reading, travel, and spending time with family and friends. John was remarried at age 89 to Lucy Wagner of Vero Beach, FL. They spent two wonderful years together prior to her passing in 2006. Survivors include his sons, David (Cynthia) McKee of Ashland, OR, John (Sonia) McKee of Vero Beach, FL, Mark (Elizabeth) McKee of Windermere, FL; daughter, Mary (Leon) Wenger of Milford, MI; sister, Jane McKee of Birmingham, MI; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Lauren, Timothy, Rebecca, Wesley, William, Jeffrey, and Sara; seven great grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, Sara, Diana, Madison, Kameron, and Hudson; three step-children; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Rosa Parks Freedom Chapel, 19975 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI. Officiating will be Pastor Douglas McMunn. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milford United Methodist Church, 1200 Atlantic St., Milford, MI 48381. Arrangements are under the care of Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory.
