BRYS, MARY BARBARA, OP; of Oxford; died November 10, 2013; at the age of 91. Mary is survived by her niece, Shirley Lackowski of Clinton Twp.; cousin, Richard A. Petrovich of Sterling Heights; many cousins and friends, especially Dr. Brian and Diana Donlon, and her community, the Dominican Sisters of Peace at the Motherhouse in Oxford. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Brys; her brothers, Rudolph, Thomas, Andrew, and Michael Brys, George, John, and Joseph Cherniansky; her three sisters, Anne Cherniansky, Helen Matwiju, and Mary Bates. Sister Mary Barbara entered religions life on August 17, 1939 and made her final profession on August 18, 1946. She attended the Felician Academy, Siena Heights College, and did her Graduate Studies at the University of Detroit. Sister Mary Barbara taught at SS Cyril and Methodius, SS Andrew and Benedict Parish, both in Detroit, and Sacred Heart in Flint. She served as Pastoral Minister at St. Joseph Parish in Owosso and as the Parish Secretary for Scared Heart Parish in Caro. A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Dominican Motherhouse, 775 W. Drahner Rd., in Oxford. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 4 until 7 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 7 p.m. Donations can be made in Sister Mary Barbara's memory to the Dominican Motherhouse. Arrangements were entrusted to the OXFORD CHAPEL of Huntoon Funeral Home.
