Donna June Mastin Obituary
Mastin, Donna June (Keck); of Fenton; age 82; died peacefully in her home Saturday, April 26, 2014, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Donna was born in Benkelman, NE, to the late Adam and Beulah Keck and raised on a wheat farm in Washburn, ND. She graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1949 and was married for 65 years to her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Philip O. Mastin, Jr. Donna and Phil resided in Hazel Park and Pontiac before retiring to Fenton in 1994. Donna was a beloved member of each community she lived in and devoted her life to active service and leadership roles in countless church, civic, and school organizations. A wise and respected businesswoman, for twenty years she was a driving force that helped Harmony House grow from a small local store to one of the largest and most successful record chains in southeast MI. Donna was a passionate and dedicated supporter of the social justice issues that Phil championed throughout his years of political service in Hazel Park, Oakland County, and the State of Michigan and worked tirelessly by his side. She and Phil found their perfect retirement home on the banks of the Shiawassee River in Fenton and enjoyed the fellowship and church family of Fenton UMC. She was an avid gardener, enthusiastic golfer, and superb cook who generously opened her home to family, friends, and strangers. Donna was love, grace, and wisdom personified. She is survived by her sister, Lois Keck Kennedy, of San Diego, CA; her children, Dawn and Tom Bobby of Littleton, CO, Cheryl and Phil Brown of Durham, NC, and Philip and Alice Mastin of Warren, MI. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Fenton United Methodist Church 119 S. Leroy St., Fenton, MI 48430. Rev. Jeremy Peters will officiate. Gathering begins at 9 a.m. until time of service. A coffee reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent in Donna’s memory to “Fenton UMC” memo line UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Disaster Relief) c/o Fenton UMC, 119 S.
