Helen Ethel Vajda Fields, 86, of Oberlin, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Swan Point Care Center in Maumee, Ohio.
She was born in Lorain, married LeRoy "Bunny" Fields in 1947, and spent most of her life in Oberlin as a homemaker and owner of the Pink & Pretty Beauty Salon.
She was a very active and longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Oberlin. Helen went to Rio de Janeiro as a missionary for the church in 1969. She also served as a worship leader and taught Sunday school.
She retired from cosmetology and ventured out to explore the world. Helen's carefree spirit led her to many adventures across the country touching the lives of everyone she met.
Helen served as a sorority house mother at Laramie Wyoming, Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, Ohio University in Athens, and Kansas State University.
Helen went to school and became a master gardener. She enjoyed growing flowers, herbs, and making everlasting wreaths and crafts. Helen will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Jon Fields of Orlando, Fla., Terry Fields, Tim Fields of Longford, Kan., and Daniel Fields of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughters Bonnie Yusko and Tina Scott of Maumee, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church of Oberlin on Saturday, July 27 at 11:30 a.m.
