Marilyn D. (Martinson) Erickson, 73, of Lacey, WA, died on March 2, 2011. She was born on December 9, 1937 in Aberdeen, WA, to Beverlie Carey (died 1985) and Karl Oliver Martinson (died 1955). She was close to her stepfather James "Tuffy" Keith of Grants Pass, OR.
Marilyn had two sons, Mark D. Redifer (deceased) and John A. (Susie) Redifer of Mercer Island. She also had four stepsons, sons of her late husband, Carl R. (Bob) Erickson (died 2000), whom she married in 1977: Bob (Kathy) Erickson of Mercer Island; Steve (Sally) Erickson and Mike (Janet) Erickson, of Olympia; and Tom (died 1983) (Cathy) Erickson. Marilyn was also survived by one grandson (John Redifer of Mercer Island), six step-grandsons and two step-granddaughters, and six step-great-grandchildren.
Marilyn graduated from Albany (OR) high school in 1956 and from the Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing (Portland, OR) in 1960. Marilyn was a registered operating room nurse for more than 20 years. She worked throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Sitka, AK; Albany, Grants Pass, Portland, and Salem, OR; and Aberdeen and Olympia, WA.
Until a major stroke sidelined her in mid-2007, Marilyn enjoyed playing cards with her step-grandchildren, entertaining, gardening, golf, dancing, and traveling. Marilyn was a lifelong Lutheran and an active member of Trinity Lutheran of Aberdeen and Gloria Dei Lutheran of Olympia.
Marilyn's memorial service will be at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Olympia. on Friday, March 18, at 11:00 a.m.
