Robert Rakevich Obituary

Robert A. Rakevich

Bob was born on November 7, 1936 in Aberdeen, WA to Nick and Viola Rakevich. He passed away on April 4, 2011. He will be missed by many and especially by his wife of 51 years Phyllis, his two children Barbara Greatwood and John Rakevich and brother Fred Rakevich.
Bob was talented in a variety of careers including radar technician in the Air Force, an Electronics Engineer for Boeing and a private company that contracted to naval bases, owner of a Montgomery Ward store in Elma, home builder, helped start Elma Citizens Bank and stock broker/financial advisor prior to retiring in 2001. He was also on the Elma Town Council. Bob was an avid bridge player with over 5000 points. He and Phyllis were able to travel on many cruises with "free passage" as Phyllis taught bridge on board. "Free" was a favorite word for Bob. There will be a small private gathering for friends and family to celebrate the life of Bob Rakevich.

Bob had a great sense of humor. He tried to keep the bridge game relaxed and friendly. He was one of the first to welcome me to bridge. My partners and I looked forward to seeing him and to competing. He tried to steer me right: he advised Dave and I to give up experimenting with Precision and concentrate on mainstream bridge as it is played around here. No doubt he was right. I appreciated that he cared enough to help me. I'll miss Bob.

Phyliss, We are so sorry to hear of Bob's passing and deeply regret that we did not get to see him again before you left. We will miss his "animated" political discussions and his expertise in all things political! He was a great friend and will be greatly missed. Be sure to keep in touch when you come back to Yuma.

We were saddened to hear of Bob's passing. We last spent a pleasant afternoon with him at Uncle George's 90th birthday. We enjoyed hearing his stories of the places he and Phyllis had traveled to on their many trips and cruises. We were sorry that his last year was a difficult one. We know that he will be deeply missed and we are keeping Phyliss, Barbara, John and their families in our prayers.
