Brant Hargrave Obituary

Brant Timm Hargrave

Timm Hargrave passed away on February 21, 2011 in Olympia at the age of 65 after a long battle with cancer.
Timm was born in Spokane in 1945 to Art and Celecia Hargrave. He graduated from Port Angeles High School and Washington State University. Timm proudly served in the U.S. Army and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. In 1972, Timm married Betty "Bea" Laird and moved to Juneau shortly thereafter. He worked as a Correctional Officer at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau until his retirement in 1995. After retiring, Timm moved to Olympia where he and Bea were residing at the time of his death.
Throughout his life, Timm has enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. He spent many hours playing poker and pinochle with his friends. After retiring, he rediscovered his love of golfing. Timm has always enjoyed spending time with his family, and in recent years, he loved being with his three grandchildren. He was a calm and generous guy with a wonderful sense of humor.
Timm was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Celecia Hargrave. Timm is survived by his loving wife, Bea Hargrave; children and their spouses, Dallas and Sarah Hargrave of Juneau and Heidi and Keith Gengler of Seattle; and grandchildren, Kai and Mila Hargrave of Juneau, and Everly Gengler of Seattle. In addition, two brothers and one sister and their families survive him.
At Timm's request, there will be no services. The family requests that those who knew Timm take a moment to remember him and all those who served in the Vietnam War and the impact that service had on their lives.

Dear Bea and family--what a wonderful gesture to be able to share stories and sentiments with one another. I adored Tex he was such a good guy---I so enjoyed his sense of humor. I can just hear his laugh. He was quite a guy and I know he will be missed terribly by those close to him. I'm thinking of you all and sending lots of love your way. Debbie Boyd, Blodgett, Oregon

Bea and family, I am very saddened to to learn of Timm's passing. I know he is in a very good place and he feels strong and healthy again. For 15 years you have been very good neighbors. Timm had the heart of a Lion and what a warrior he has been through this latest bout with cancer. Bea you have been marvelous. You have shown the strength of Ruth through this final passage. I wish you comfort and peace in your healing. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know. If your home gets too lonely come on down and visit. I know Timm was a pinocle player and if you are too come on over and play with us. You are not the only one who feels this loss.

Be strong Bea - you are loved by many.

I will miss Timm very much and will remember him as one of my very dearest relatives. He always was ready with a kiss on the cheek and a kind word. My David also appreciated Timm so much, and I know they are high-fiving it now in Heaven and sharing "survival stories" of days gone by in "the Nam" and afterwards -- Dave had such respect for Timm. And as special as Timm's life was, his wife Bea was always, in all ways, the wind beneath his wings. Bless you all, dear cousins, and may God's grace heal your sorrow.

Bea,
My thoughts and prayers have been with you & Timm during his fight for life with such courage, as Linda has shared some of his journey and adventures with me. I am deeply saddened at the news of his passing and my heart goes out to you all. I have and will always cherish the memories of growing up with the Hargrave Family. Timm was the Big Brother I always wanted and yet got to have through my friendship with Linda. When I think of Timm I always see his big grin and hear his laughter, he will remain in my heart forever. Love, Shirley

I didn't know Tim but my husband, Fred Morton, was a friend of Tim's when they were both in college. Fred died of a brain tumor almost four years ago but I know he would have wanted to comment on Tim's life because Fred thought so highly of Tim. Both Fred and Tim were Vietnam veterans, and I know they had some serious discussions about their experiences. On a lighter note, both of them were part of an informal football team (you had to be a veteran to be on the teams) that afforded them both a chance to put aside more serious considerations and just enjoy the competition, the comraderie, and of course the beer after the games. Fred liked and respected Tim for his sense of humor, his kindness and his inate decency. My deepest sympathy to Tim's family. How could a person like Tim NOT be deeply missed? Karyn Lackman

I was saddened to learn that Timm lost his long and courageous battle against cancer. I was a childhood friend of Linda and spent lots of time visiting them out on the "ranch" west of Port Angeles. I remember Timm as being a very special big brother to Linda...and since I never had a brother, I always envied her the relationship they had. My condolences to your entire family. Sincerely, Susan (Longfellow) Banks
