David DeMoss Obituary

David Lee DeMoss

David was born in Joplin, Missouri, February 15, 1935 to William Reginald DeMoss and Laura Bernadine (Bryson) DeMoss. He attended Webb City High School before joining the US Navy in 1952 serving aboard the USS Hornet, USS Mt. McKinley, USS Watts, and as a Fire Technician aboard the USS Princeton during the Korean War.
After eight years with the US Navy he began dual careers: one as minister for the Lord and the other as an aerospace engineer. His ministry took him around the world for many years as he grew from a youth pastor to a senior pastor and teacher. David established Bible studies wherever he worked and traveled and cultivated many long lasting relationships. Australia became his favorite place to teach and preach. He had a love for the people that never diminished over the years.
Through his many years as an aerospace engineer, he worked on many scientific and defense contracts for companies such as Hughes Aircraft, Lockheed, TRW, Xerox/Loral, Northrop Grumman, and McDonnell Douglas.
David enjoyed stimulating his mind by teaching himself new skills and creating things with his hands. He loved music: writing songs, singing with his family, self-taught on the guitar. He was an accomplished carpenter, electrician, and plumber and used those skills to help build churches and houses. He raced sports cars and flew planes in his youth; becoming a classic car and airplane buff in later years. He was involved in many forms of sport, but preferred golf over all.
He passed away March 26, 2011 from stroke related complications. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donna Lynn Sorrell; his uncle, James 0. Bryson; brothers, George Leon and James Reginald DeMoss; sister, Bettie Ilene Lamb. He is survived by his wife, Joan and their son, James Bryson DeMoss. Surviving siblings are Nelda Cole, Patricia Tarrant, Bernadine Tarrant, and John W. DeMoss of the Joplin, Missouri area. He is also survived by children Candace (Everett, WA), Catherine (Las Vegas, NV), David (Granada Hills, CA), Colleen, and Patrice (both of Olympia); 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He loved the Lord and happily embraced life and lived it to its fullest. We will miss his captivating smile, infectious laugh, and great sense of humor. We will miss him.
