Dorothy Schroder Obituary

Dorothy Annease Schroder

Dorothy Annease Schroder, age 101, of Olympia, Washington has gone home to Heaven on April 10, 2011. Dorothy was born in Campbell, Nebraska on January 11, 1910 to Henry and Sophia Focken.
On August 27, 1929 Dorothy married Sherman Schroder in Atkinson, Nebraska. They spent their early married life in Nebraska, where their daughter and two sons were born. In early 1945 they moved to Washington state, where another daughter was added to their family. Dorothy and Sherman became active in the Vader Grace Methodist Church. Many happy times were spent at the church strengthening her Christian faith and quilting with her many friends.
Dorothy and Sherman moved to Olympia in 1974. She joined the First Baptist Church and soon started a quilting group. The ladies met every Tuesday for many years. Her quilts found their way to many places in the world, such as Japan and Hawaii. She had many talents. Over several years she wrote a book about her life which was completed and published in 2005. It was a gift to her family and those who follow.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Maralee Ice (Don), Jerry Schroder (Yoshiko) and Patricia Luhr (her husband, Bill passed away last year), Janis Schroder (daughter in- law); 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 7 great great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, who died in 1976; son, Robert H. Schroder; grandson, Montey A. Schroder; and 3 infant grandchildren.
As a family we find happiness in the fact that she is now at home with her Savior.
Donations may be sent to the Deacons Fund at First Baptist Church, 904 5 Washington St., Olympia, WA. 98501.
A memorial service will be held at 11 :3O a.m on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, Olympia, Washington with lunch following the service.

Dear Marilee & Don, We just got home from our trip on Friday and just heard about your mom's passing. We just wanted to send you our sincere sympathy. I know you will greatly miss her. It was wonderful that she lived such a long and meaningful life. We can rejoice in the fact that she is now with her Savior and enjoying all the blessings of heaven. Wish we could have been there for the memorial service. May God be an ever present strength and comfort to you and your family.

GG Ma was always a sweet, caring presence in the activity of the Ice home. The several years of my working with Terra gave me the opportunity to appreciate her contribution to their home and family. Her lovely quilts, cooking and concern for the happiness of others were apparent every day. It was a privalege to know her and her loving family.
You will be missed and remembered, Dorothy.
