Ellan Marshall Obituary

Ellan Nadine
Marshall

Ellan Nadine Marshall joined the love of her life, Charlie Marshall on Valentines Day.
Loving family surrounded her. Nadine, living at Garden Courte Memory Care facility since her husbands death on August 6, 2010, was born in Coquille, Oregon on February 24, 1924 to Frank Merrill and Cynthia Drew Conrad.
Nadine, her sisters Mary Lou Strasser and Jane Baxter were long time residence of Lewis County. Her brother Perry Conrad lived in New York City.
Nadine is survived by her children, Mike and Autumn Marshall, Cindy and Jerry Schultz, Paul Marshall and Susan Dakis, and Kay and Jim Chubbuck. She had 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren who were a regular joy in her life.
Nadine lived for many years in the Napavine and Chehalis area. She was a proud mother and grandmother and thought motherhood to be a blessing in her life. Nadine was an active 4H Club leader for many years, a proud Democrat and an accomplished artist and crafts women. Many of us enjoy having one of her wonderful, handmade dolls or quilts. She worked for Lewis County Mental Health, Maple Lane School for Girls and other jobs during her life.
After a serious illness in the mid 1960's, Nadine and Charlie began taking in teenage foster children. We laughingly remember a time when even the family 9-passenger station wagon wasn't big enough to take the entire family to town.
At Nadine's request there will be no service. Please make donations to Alzheimer's Association at ALZ.ORG.

My mother is Dorthy Mathis Nadine was her foster mom for 5 years. When I was a child my mother took me and my sister to meet Nadine and Charlie .I remember him and her being the sweetest people i ever met .I remember that Nadine had balls thrown all over her yard i thought that was so amazing i could not believe it i played with them i could not believe how many there was .I also remember that they had an organ and Charlie taught us how to play oh when the saints come marching in on it i can still play it to this day .My sister and I also got to stay the night and sleep in the loft they had and they took us to seattle the next day ... We had so much fun with them .... I would like to say thank you to them for not only taking care of my mom as a young child but for loving us like we were there own grand children .My Deepest sympathy and Prayers.

I want to express my sympathy to Mike, Cindy, Paul and Kay. Recently I remembered that Nadine expressed her sympathy to Mom and me when Pope Pius XII died in the late '50s. I don't remember exactly when it was but it was recently. I have a few pictures of us and the 4Hers. What a great time we had. Nadine and Charlie were role models for a lot of us. You are in my prayers.

Just want to say how sorry I was to read of Nadine's passing. I remember her from when I was the Lewis County 4-H Agent and She was a leader of a 4-H club. I remember visiting her and Charlie at her home. We will keep her in our memory book and pray for the family.

Kay & Family,
I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I lost my dad in 2004 and mom in 2008. There will always be an empty place in your heart, but hopefully it will soon be filled with laughter of the great memories you have of her. You are in my prayers.

We are so sorry for your loss. How fitting that your sweet Mother joined your sweet Father on Valentine's Day. She is also seeing the woman she told me was her best friend - my darling Mom, Virginia "Mousie" Becker Haunreiter. At Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary I overheard your Mom saying to my Mom "And they all said our marriages wouldn't last - we were too young! Look at us now Mousie - still married and happy in love all these years later!" It was a lovely tribute to each other and the only two men in their lives.
