Forrest V. Russell, 88, died Saturday evening, February 19, 2011 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. A long-time Olympia resident, he was born Forrest Vernon Russell on November 25, 1922 in Everett, Washington to William Herman and Florence Alfratta (Muldoon) Russell. Raised in Everett, Washington, Lt Col Russell was graduated from Everett High School class of 1940. He retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of military service, serving honorably both in WWII and the Korean War. Forrest was an Assistant Director for Information Systems for the Department of Licensing of Washington State. He met Marjorie Ann Ryan at the University of Washington and they married on September 3, 1949 St. John Catholic Church in Seattle, WA. Forrest was a published author. He spent hours of research and associations with the University of Washington library. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie A. Russell of Olympia; daughter Corinne Lovato of Port Orchard, WA; daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Gerald Lee of Boise, Idaho; son Marty Russell and Devanie Norberg, both of Seattle, 10 grandchildren, including, Paul Lovato, Rabekka Dilg, James Lovato, Mark Lovato, Adrian Gibbens, Stephen Lee, Lorah Green, Collyn Halsted, and Alyssa and Sarah Russell, as well as six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant sons, Forrest and Marc.Viewing will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday February 24, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, February 25, 2011 with burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lacey. Memorial contributions in his honor are suggested to Catholic Bishops of Northern Alaska 1312 Peger Rd, Fairbanks, AK 99709.

He was a wonderful man. I have always felt it was an honor and a privilege to know him as my grandpa. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. It is an extreme comfort to know he is now home with the Lord.
