H. Faubion Obituary

H. Herbert
Faubion, Jr.

Just two months after celebrating his 100th birthday with family and friends, Herbert (Hub) Faubion slipped away quietly on April 22, 2011, at home and surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Hub was born to Herbert, Sr., and Alma Kent Faubion on February 19, 1911 and lived in his home town of Cathlamet, Washington, until 1956. It was in Cathlamet that he met Rosemary, his wife of 66 years and began raising their four children. She preceded him in death in 2007.
In 1956, Hub moved his family to Lacey when he was appointed the first Executive Secretary of the newly formed State Board for Volunteer Firemen (now State Board for Volunteer Fire-fighters and Reserve Officers). He served the State and his fellow volunteers in that capacity until his retirement in 1976.
Hub's great loves were his family and friends, hunting and fishing, the volunteer fire service (he served 42+ years as a volunteer in Cathlamet and Lacey) and travelling and meeting new people and cultures.
He is survived by his four children, Pam (George) Bigelow of Olympia, Tom (Barbie) Faubion of Kapowsin, Joe (Carol) Faubion of Olympia, and Bill (Cynthia) Faubion of Cathlamet; and by his 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
To date, no decisions have been made by the family regarding a public memorial.

Hub was an example to all who knew him as a man dedicated to his family and the fire service. Those of us who served with him never ceased to be amazed at his devoted service to the State and Communities in which he lived. He will be missed. Rex Jordan, Kennewick, Washington

On behalf of the Washington State Fire Fighters’ Association and the volunteers past, present and future. No measure of gratitude is adequate to convey the appreciation for what the Father of the Board of Volunteer F/F created. He was such a visionary, none of the likes we’ll ever see again.
