John Pugh Obituary

John Cecil Pugh

John Pugh, 41, passed away February 2, 2011, at Ft. Bragg, NC. He was born March 15, 1969, in La Mesa, CA, to Cecil and Lynette Pugh. After graduating from Manteca High School, John decided to join the Army. Four years and a skirmish in Iraq later, he came home to decide what he wanted to do when he grew up. After many hobby careers, John received a teaching degree from San Diego State University and was placed on the California substitute teacher list. He enjoyed teaching, even eighth graders, but stepped into that career at a time when it wasn't easy finding placement.
John moved to Washington to live on a boat for a while, and re-enlisted in the Army. He recently returned from a tour in Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division and was working to promote. John enjoyed spending time outdoors (when it wasn't raining), and was always trying to motivate people to go to the gym with him. John loved to cook, especially for friends, and had hoped to open a restaurant with his brother when he retired from the Army.
John is survived by his son Alec; parents Cecil and Lynette; brothers, Clayton, Jason, Carlin, Mat, and Marc; sisters, Michele and Kristen; aunts, uncles, cousins, and too many good friends to possibly list. John will be greatly missed, and will continue to motivate us to be the best we can. As he said, "We didn't get all dressed up for nothin'."
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, February 11, 2011, at South Sound Manor, 455 North Street SE, Tumwater, WA 98501.

John Pugh was one of the finest. An original, a born leader who always, always had a joke or a crazy story at the ready, a barbeque tool in his hand, and a shoulder if you needed it -- who believed in living life on his terms and living it to the fullest. He loved his life and he loved his son. He will be so deeply missed by all who knew him, and remembered forever. ~The San Diego peeps
