John was the best neighbor and friend to have for the past 10 years. He always had a smile on his face. He use to come next door and he and my husband would sit on the patio and discuss the war they were in. We really enjoyed having him and Grace for neighbors and I will miss him.

The confines of the obituary barely scratch the surface of the man John Hanson. Sort of like saying its a red car when you are looking at a screaming F41 Ferrari. After his capture in the Phillipines, he was part of the Bataan death march and those three years as a POW were not in some Hogans Heros comfort camp - he was a slave laborer in a steel mill on a starvation diet with sadistic guards. He was generous with his time and his assets. He kept a salad garden every year and was proud of his perfect lettuce and tomatos. For many years he would invade the thorny blackberry patches for the raw materials of his delicious jelly. He said the secret ingedient was a little of your own blood. We enjoyed the results every Christmas (and reciprocated with chokecherry jelly which he had enjoyed in Montana.) He had a blast taking nieces and nephews (and grands of each) out on his boat in Puget sound. Salmon were always the quarry, but a fall back to flounder and what ever we could drag up from the bottom made the day when the salmon were small or scarce. He would give the kids a turn at the helm on the way in or out making them feel important and wanted - pretty much the way he dealt with everyone and prime reason that he is so beloved and will be missed by all.
