Karen Paull Obituary

Karen M. Paull

Karen M. Paull passed away in her Marysville, Washington at home on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 after a 27-month battle with cancer. Karen, born to A.C. "Jack"
Miller, Jr. and Agnes Miller on May 21, 1945 in Aberdeen, Washington, grew up in Oakville, Washington, where she attended high school and established the first of her two businesses following her graduation from DeWhitte's Beauty School.
Along with her husband Dwayne, Karen moved to California for a time, before returning to Washington where in 1976 they settled in Marysville. Three years later, she gave birth to the first of their two children: Terry, who was followed by their daughter, Nicole Harris (Paull) in 1982.
It was at this time that Karen set up her second business, an in-home daycare, which she ran for several years prior to her 20-year Food Service career with the Marysville School District, where she worked until her retirement in 2010.
Karen, an active mother and contributor to her community, was a member of her children's PTSA, supporter of youth and local sports, and an advisor and mentor to members of the local DeMolay and DeMolay Sorority chapters and to those around Washington, ultimately receiving recognition for her contributions by DeMolay International with the DeMolay Cross of Honor in 2003. When not feeding the hearts and souls of those she interacted with, Karen could be found playing solitaire, watching sports and "judge" shows, cooking, knitting or crocheting.
Proceeded in death by her parents, "Jack" and Agnes, Karen's legacy of leadership, love and service is carried on by her husband of 47 years, D. Dwayne Paull; son, Terry E. Paull; daughter and son-n-law, Nicole and Ben Harris; siblings, A.C. "Cliff" Miller III (Sharon) and Harry "Gene" Miller (Jeanette); numerous nieces and nephews; and the thousands with whom she interacted.
Celebration of Life potlucks will be held for Karen in both Oakville and Marysville, Washington.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Oakville Cemetery, followed immediately by the Oakville Celebration of Life Potluck at the Oakville Community Center (formerly Oakville Legion Hall) from noon to 4:00 p.m.
The Marysville Celebration of Life Potluck will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 from
11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Marysville Masonic Center located at 5th St. and Columbia Ave. in Marysville.
The family respectfully asks that donations be made in Karen's honor to either the Portland Shriners Hospital for Children or the American Cancer Society.

Dwayne and children. My prayers are with you today. I enjoyed the years that Karen and I shared at Tulalip Elementary. She could turn out some of the most wonderful baked goods, and had that great laugh.

My condolences to Dwayne and the family of Karen including her Miller connections. I knew Karen in grade school and high school and remember her as a bright, alert, lively, attractive and always well attired girl in the class ahead of mine. I know she suffered a lot in recent years. May she rest in peace. Jim Vosper OHS '64
