my 'Bobby' memories are of he and Reed riding their trail bikes through the woods in the summers--always worried they'd break their little necks--how he went from master bike rider to world's worst hot dog chef is still a mystery.
He was always totally without pretense and I often thought how much better the world would be if we could all emulate that.
We'll miss him--but in the words of an old war ballad--"We'll meet again--don't know where --don't know when".

February 25, 2011

My first memory of Bobbie was at the Beach House where I was the Kelley's babysitter. I use to take him and Reed waterskiing in the summer and on rainy days we'd sit in the cabin and play cards. I thought Bobby was the cutest kid I'd ever seen. As an adult the best one word I can think to describe him is (APPRECIATIVE). He was so grateful for anything I'd do for him like give him a ride or invite him to the house. He really loved riding in the big suburban and he was really impressed with my driving. He was such a love and I will miss him so much.

February 25, 2011

Bobby always had such a big smile! His easy going way always made everyone feel so welcome. I cherish the memories of watching him and Reed gear up to go chop down some trees in the woods in the summer. Many Hugs, Merrill

February 25, 2011

Bobby shared sunshine! He always had a smile, hug, and an infectious laugh that made you feel better. He was the little brother that we loved to have around even way back in the 70s when I spent so much time at the fun Hamblen house. I treasure the memories and pray for peace for the family. I'm so sorry for your loss and send you all warm hugs and prayers for peace.

I must say I'm writing this way to early in life but feel comfort knowing your in a better place. Those who knew you know that you were an amazing person full of life and content with what you had. I can't imagine how it will be without you during the holidays but we will all be sure to save the last present for you. Your gone but the traditions and fun times we shared will always remain in my heart. You will be missed!

Bob...As I sit here the night before your service, I keep replaying a particular New Years Eve Celebration in my head from the mid 80"s. It seems like just yesterday we were all gathered at the Westwater bringing in the New year as only we could, when some how you showed up with a fully decorated Christmas tree, not at the main door but from the sliding glass door off the balcony and we were on the 3rd floor ! Always full of surprises...I will miss seeing your smiling face with your mom on your shopping trips. You were such a kind and gentle soul.
Barbie, my heart goes out to you and your family.

Uncle Bob,

I cannot explain how much we will all miss you.  Every time I saw you, you welcomed me with open arms.  You always cared about how school was going and wanted to hear about everything I was doing.  I’m going to miss you teasing me for always being so quiet and telling me that I talk WAY too much! But most of all I am going to miss whooping your butt in Apples to Apples!

Whenever I see your empty chair I cannot help but see you relaxing there in your husky/hawks gear but I have to remind myself that you are looking down smiling and laughing at all of us.

You will forever be in my heart Uncle Bob. LOVE YOU!

Bobby,
To be writing this makes this all the more real with you being gone. To think of the holidays without you, and all the birthdays it will be most difficult. You were always the first to welcome anybody new to our family, and we're all going to miss your bright smile, your kind heart, and wicked sence of humor. Jeez, we're all going to miss you so much, already feeling a huge loss. Its good to know that your up there with grandpa looking out for all of us! Miss you and love you lots!!!

Cheers to you Uncle Bob

Uncle Bob, Bobbers, Bobbaay,

What an amazing Uncle I had! A day doesn't go by when I am at Gramas house and am "munching" at the hor dourves table that I dont think of you making fun of me always asking me, "Where is that little body putting all that food?" Bobbers, you were always busting me for snitching before dinner. hehe :) I'm not quite sure cheesy mash will ever quite taste the same without you making them...and of course always making sure I got first dibs on licking clean the cheesey mixer beeters! ;-)

There isn't a day that goes by that I'm not thinking about you. Whether it be driving and I look out at the beautiful day and start talking to ya, or sitting at Grams for dinner and look over at "your" chair wishing you were there, you are always in my thoughts. I love you Bobbers! You are truly missed and I as hard as it is to have you gone, I am so thankful to have You up there looking over me. xoxo
I love you Uncle Bob--"Your favorite little niece"

I think I got to know Bobby a little better each summer, always around Barbies house, to bring a little more fun to the atmosphere! To BBQ all the fun dinners, drink beer with the boys, be on the boats, share his crab catch and wave as we would make a fly by his cabin on Cooper Point. His fun, positive, and bright smile will be missed by all of Olympia, and especially by the crowd of people, who will miss him the most, sitting on Barbies back deck sharing the never ending fun times had by all with Bobby Hamblen.

I first met Bobby on the dock over on Eld inlet. He was a regular hanging out on the bay and like most of us regulars he loved his bay! Mikey and I were starting to "see" each other and I didn't realize that he was Mikey's uncle, and that soon he would be my uncle too! And it was a pleasure having him as an uncle because he sure knew how to liven up a room. I remember him crashing the mic at Barbie's 70th and singing songs, it was hilarious! Shortly after meeting Bobby, a new country song called "redneck yacht club" aired. That's what we all thought of our bay time, a bunch of boats all tied up drinking beer on the water. There is a line in that song that sings "That's Bob, he's our president" and Bobby loved that! Life will not be the same without him on the waters in Olympia. And so I will miss our redneck yacht club president and I will miss the BBQ master. I must admit at first I thought Bob was not a good BBQer because he would always burn all the hot dogs. I later realized he purposely cooked them that way because that's how his momma likes them. Bobber you will remain a sweet, fun and loving man in all of our hearts. and as Julie always sings on his birthday every year "cheers to brother bobby, brother bobby! cheers to brother bobby!"

Bobbers,

Today I bid you farewell and good bye. Who would have thought that a guy from Aberdeen Washington would have even met a guy from Odessa Texas? Mix a little technology, with a beautiful sister … and the rest is history.

I will miss you at family gathering … I will miss you at summer meals … but most of all I will miss you when the Sounders take the field. On March 15th the 2011 Season official begins, so we'll grab our scarf's and head to the Quest, knowing you'll be with us and cheer with the best. We will hoist a “Shock Top in your name, knowing you would have enjoyed it, and have done the same.

So as my ancestors would say: “May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm upon your face. May the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, May the lord hold you in the palm of his hand.

Dear wonderful Hamblens and Drennons,
It's just impossible to believe that brilliant smile and warm personality have left us. I rarely got to see my cousin Bobby but I loved him dearly, and will never forget those childhood days when you'd all come visit us from Fort Wayne. We'd all pile into Mom's red convertible and Bobby would sing along with the radio at the top of his lungs...getting all the words wrong but more hilariously wrong than you can imagine. The guy just radiated joy and love for everyone...and I know he is lighting up Heaven just as he did our little piece of the world.
So much love to each one of you,
Kathy Robinson Braman and family

Dear wonderful Hamblens/Drennons...it's just impossible to believe that beautiful sunny smile and bright face have left us. My cousin Bobby was a guy I hardly saw but loved dearly, ever since those days when you'd all visit us from Fort Wayne. I remember Bobby hanging out of Mom's red convertible, singing along with the radio at the top of his lungs...getting all the words wrong but more hilariously wrong than you can imagine. The guy was just joyful to be around. The world has gone a little dimmer but Heaven must be a whole lot brighter :)
So much love,

Bobby was always incredibly friendly and positive and happy at every holiday party I was lucky enough to attend at Barbies. He played a gracious host and BBQer, and his lighthearted laughter will be missed. My thoughts are with you, Barbie and family, and will be missing Bobby this summer, and always. Love, Annie Johns

Uncle Bob, words to describe him would be; funny, caring, positive and GREAT! I have to say, he is one person that I never saw without laughing, and most of the time, it was almost out of control laughter. I am going to miss laughing with him while he is BBQing the hot dogs during one of Gram's parties, listening to his attempts at singing (he was pretty good at rhyming)and his hilarious stories (one of the funniest story tellers around). Uncle Bob, you will be greatly missed! Love ya
