She continued her association with PEO. Roberta and Jim celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1992.
Through the years Roberta was a busy mother, a loyal friend to many, and a mentor to family and friends alike. She is survived by her three children - James I. I just heard of Berta's passing to be with the LORD while vacationing in Olympia/Seattle. I'd just found an old letter from her from Des Moines a week before our trip and was looking her up with hopes to see her again. Lost touch a while after her move and ours to the South. So thankful to still be able to send my condolences at this late date. Miss Berta was a sweet and giving lady, a friend to me and like a grandmother to my children. We met at First United Methodist Church of Olympia and with our last name being Whitney, we were instant friends! My children & I have fond memories of ice cream cones, swings and paddle boats along with her smiles and great conversations at her lovely home. I miss her, her encouraging words and her exceedingly bright spirit. I am better for knowing her. Her life truly reflected the love of Jesus. I look forward to seeing her again someday!
Blessings to all her family.

I just found out about Berta's passing while updating various family tree's. Although late, my condolences to your families. Berta had one of the brightest personalities I have ever seen and was always helpful and a good resourse at the two family reunions I attended in the 1980's and 90's the last one being at Jane Allen Rogers in Port Townsend. I have researched the Whitner & Allen Families that are part of the Ide Family resourse collection that is contributed to the Ide book in PA and Ancestry.com . I am an Allen as James Allen Houston and have collected documents and archives on most of the Allied families decending from my primary family names. Allen, Barrett, Houston, Ide and Whitner on my fathers side. Hanna Matilda Whitner Allen my great grandmother whose brother would be Berta's grandfather Abraham Wilson Whitner. The Whitners and Allens came out to Seattle in 1906 together from Lancaster County PA. Any questions regarding the family genealogy can contact me at the following: [email protected] or by telephone at 425-481-9742 in Bothell, WA.

I still have fond memories of Mud Bay and even more of hearing my mom talk so fondly over the years about her beloved friend Roberta and the fun they had together in their many decades of friendship--60 yrs? In moving my mom once in mid December within Panorama City in Lacey ,WA and again in February back to Spokane I lost time to respond to the family. Take care of each other! Nan Comeaux Luppert

My mother, Patricia Gallagher Shaw, was a good friend of Roberta's.I remember our Shaw family having a wonderful time as guests of the Hamby's at their Montesano home. It was especially fun hearing their jokes about the origin of city names in that area of Washington. Wish I could remember all of them.
Roberta will be greatly missed! We send our heartfelt condolences to the Hamby family! Dan Shaw and family

Mrs. Hamby was my girl scout leader many years ago in Montesano. She was a great inspiration to the young girls in the group and made a great impact on my life. I am glad that she was a part of my younger years and I know that many people have fond and loving memories of her including myself.
