Tom Saelid Obituary

Tom Oskar Saelid

Tom Saelid went home to be with his Lord on January 17, 2011, in Olympia, WA, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by Gena, his wife of 21 years, and his three children: Lauren, Glynne, and Danny, as well as his mother Liv Godal Grant, brother Per and sister Linda.
Tom was born in Moss, Norway, on July 29, 1964, to Per Oskar Saelid and Liv Godal Saelid. He was a graduate of Issaquah High School and Western Washington University. During his college years, he served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Following his earning of a CPA, Tom was hired by the State of Washington where he worked in multiple agencies and concluded his more than 20-year career at the Office of Financial Management where he was responsible for developing the Governor's capital budget.
Tom's life was blessed by a pure faith in God and a wonderful family. His many interests centered around his love for his wife and children. He coached soccer, was an avid fan of fast-pitch, cheered on his horse riding daughters, enjoyed a great day on the golf course, and had a particular love for fishing.
Tom's memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at New Bridge Community Church. For those wanting to assist the family, a Saelid Children Scholarship Fund account is being set up in Tom's name at Heritage Bank. All money donated to the fund will be applied to Lauren, Glynne, and Danny's GET accounts. For those wishing to express their sympathy in another manner, direct donations to the American Cancer Society in Tom's name would be appreciated.

Tom Saelid was one of the most kind, loving, friendly and fair people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. We talked about work a lot, because I took his job when he moved up to capital, but we also often discussed spiritual matters and I was always struck by his combination of firm belief and utmost respect for others spiritual journey. A rare combination. I am so sad that he is gone. I am a better person for having known him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Cheri Keller

Coach Tom,

We are so thankful that our son had the privilege of having you as his coach and playing with such an amazing group of boys, led by you. We appreciated your energy and humor and commitment to our team, and so many before that. You will be missed.
