Uvon Young Obituary

Uvon Lee Young
May 7, 1917-
May 27, 2011

Uvon was born on May 7, 1917 in Rigby, Idaho, the third child of Leo and Ora Ludlow. She moved with her family to Santa Monica, California and graduated from Venice High School. In 1938 she married Ray Young, and they had two children. For a short time the family lived in Florida, but returned to California as World War Two began. Both Uvon and Ray worked for cartoon studios in Florida, California, Canada and Australia. Ray was a cartoon animator and Uvon a cartoon cell painter. Uvon's work included painting the Snoopy series, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Beatles cartoons and numerous advertising cartoons. In 1972, after retirement, Uvon and Ray moved to Pt. Roberts, Washington, where they built a home, opened and ran a private airstrip and small motel, and were very active in the Pt. Roberts community. After her husband's death Uvon moved to Olympia to be closer to her family. She was a strong woman who lived a very full and interesting life in her 94 years. She had a good sense of humor, greatly enjoyed travelling and attending the Mormon Church, and loved being with her family and sharing stories and pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Uvon was preceded in death by her brothers Larry and Ned Ludlow, and her sisters Via Lindstrom and Ilah Gatlin. She is survived by her children Mikel Young (Jo Ann) and Nancy Watt (Dave), her grandchildren LauraLeigh Young, Erick Young, Jason Watt and Jane Buckle, and four great-grandchildren.
The family will celebrate Uvon's life with a family celebration this summer. Remembrances of Uvon may be posted at www.funeralalternatives.org and donations in her memory can be made to safeplace.
