BELL, David Holden
May 1, 1931 - February 20, 2013
David passed away peacefully at VGH on February 20. David was born in Hartlepool, England before leaving the UK in 1960 to Jamaica for nearly four years where his children Susan & John were born and then to Canada in 1963. In 2006 David and Jean moved from their long-time home in Arvida, Quebec to BC to be with their children and (now) four grandchildren. David was a chemical engineer and worked for Alcan for many years, and travelled around the world on business. As a father he was an active, loving man who, along with a passion for sailing, also treated his family to flying, snowmobiling and many other activities. After moving to BC he spent many part-weeks in Surrey helping to look after his two grandsons, and on weekends rarely missed Sunday dinner with his granddaughters in Vancouver. Whilst in Arvida, David was an integral part of a Anglican/United Church shared ministry and was a lay reader for many years. David is survived by his wife of 57 years Jean; daughter Susan (husband Eamon); son John (wife Mykieu); four grandchildren Charlotte, Georgia, Joseph, & Daniel; sister Susan Goodchild and brother-in-law John Barnett and many friends across Canada and overseas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's United Church, 7025 Granville St, Vancouver on Friday, March 8 at 2 p.m.
