Donald Benjamin Archibald December 22, 1933 - November 24, 2012 Peacefully surrounded and comforted by family members and the dear Reverend Michelle Slater, our beloved Donald Benjamin Archibald passed away on a sunny Vancouver afternoon, Saturday November 24, 2012. He is survived by his adored and loving wife, Gaye, daughters Tammea (Andrew) Arthur and Brynn (Rory), and four delightful grandchildren: Tyleigh, Brayden, Denver and Alden, his sister Betty Dietiker and family, cousin Linda Archibald and many other cousins. He will be warmly remembered by his wide circle of friends and special contacts in the Dunbar community where he lived.
Ben was born December 22, 1933, in Vancouver, and attended Lord Kitchener Elementary, Kitsilano and Lord Byng, graduating in 1952. He furthered his studies, graduating with a Degree in Bachelor of Commerce and Business Studies at UBC where he met his wife, Gaye. Following his graduation from UBC, he began his career at The Bay in Vancouver and transferred to the Personnel Department at The Bay in Victoria. In 1965, he and Gaye returned to Vancouver where he furthered his business career with Gordon Fabrics Ltd. He retired after 32 years with the company.
Ben and Gaye enjoyed travelling throughout their 50 years of marriage, visiting the Baltic, the Mediterranean, the UK, the Panama Canal, parts of Asia and experiencing several cruises to Alaska. Ben volunteered with the Stroke Recovery Association, Shaughnessy Branch, for over eleven years. He enjoyed watching sports and curled, in winter months, with the Minister's Curling League of Greater Vancouver.
A service of remembrance and celebration of his life will be held at Dunbar Heights United Church (3525 West 24th Avenue, Vancouver, BC) on December 1, 2012 at 2pm. Flowers gratefully declined. The family would like to thank the exceptional staff at VGH Cardiac Care Unit and the paramedics who assisted him.
