Irene LaPlace (nee Hopper)

January 4, 1917 to November 2, 2012

Irene was born in Yiewsley Middlesex England. At the age of 26 she married Richard (Dick) LaPlace, a young gentleman serving with the Canadian military overseas. Irene made the journey from England to Canada on a troop ship with her two young boys, Richard (John) and Clifford to join her husband in Alberta soon after WWII. Once settled she was blessed with a daughter Irene June. She and her family made their home in Surrey, BC. Irene made friends easily and enjoyed spending her spare time helping others. She was very involved with the Girl Guides of Canada. Irene was a mentor and positive role model to many girls. After years of service she retired in the position of Commissioner. Irene loved her home, her gardens and most of all, her family. She was Nana to Kelly, Linda, Jamie , Shane and Collin. She was also blessed with 9 beautiful great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren. Pre-deceased by her husband Dick, and two children Irene June and Clifford, Irene passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family. She is survived by her son Richard (John), her son-in-law Dan Crowie and their families. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to charities of your choice. A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2013.
