KERR, James (Jim)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Raymond Kerr on December 11, 2012 at the age of 85. Husband to Corinne Kerr for almost 59 years, father to Brian (Gail) and Michael, and grandfather to Allison, Gillian, Stephen, Emily, Erin, and Melanie. Jim was predeceased by his son, Bruce, and missed him greatly. Born in Vancouver on May 22, 1927, Jim graduated from Lord Byng High School in 1946. After marrying Corinne and living in Vancouver until the birth of their first son, the young family moved to Richmond in 1956 and into their current home in 1959. Jim started his own delivery service - Totem Delivery - before settling in as a successful salesman and delivery driver with Vancouver Tropical Plant Co. He founded Kerr's Recognition Services in 1986 and never retired - he only stopped working when a broken hip landed him in Richmond General Hospital two months ago. Jim's passion in life was tennis. His father introduced him to the sport at age 6, and by age 17, he was playing at the West Point Grey Tennis Club and later at the B.C. Electric Tennis Club. He was one of the founding members of Western Indoor Tennis Club in Richmond. Jim was known for his great sense of humour and quick wit. He was a great family man and treasured time with his children and grandchildren. A private family graveside service is planned for Monday, December 17. Family, friends and acquaintances are invited to an Open House Celebration of Life at Jim's home on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 12 - 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Developmental Disabilities Association or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
