Nelson William George Blace May 21, 1924 - Dec. 24, 2012 Nelson passed away peacefully at Lakeshore Care Centre in Coquitlam, B.C. on December 24th, 2012 at the age of 88. Born in Ottawa on May 21st,1924 he leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Sheila. Nelson served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. In 1960 he moved his family to the West Coast of Canada where Nels and Sheila raised their six sons in North Vancouver. He was a letter carrier for Canada Post up to the time of his retirement and a proud and longstanding member of the LCUC. He was mechanically inclined and spent many an hour fixing up or repairing friend's and families' automobiles, as well as his own from time to time. He enjoyed reading, playing chess, and had an insatiable fascination with astronomy. Nelson loved sports and although long removed from Ottawa he still cheered faithfully for his beloved Senators and Rough Riders. Nels was an accomplished horseshoe pitcher racking up many tournament wins and trophies both as an individual and in pairs competition with Sheila at his side. They both travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States in their motorhome during his retirement. He will long be remembered for his dry wit and sense of humour. Nelson was predeceased by his youngest son Bradley, his brother Weston, and sisters Lucy, Bernice, Ambelina and Dorothy. He leaves behind his sister Sylvia, sons Ken (Gail), Jeff (Darla), Alan, Gord (Beth) and Rod (Cindy). grandchildren Gary, Chris,Michael, Heather, Kristi, Jaime, and Devyn. along with seven great grandchildren - Braden,Chloe,Wyatt,Carter,Owen,Connor, and Logan. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Lakeshore Care Centre for the love, care, and attention they gave dad over the last 2 1/2 years. A celebration of Nelson's life will be held on Saturday, January 12th at Cheers Restaurant, 125 East 2nd St. in North Vancouver from 1 - 4 P.M. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations if desired may be made to Childrens Hospital.
