April 7, 1926 - November 12, 2012
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Walter Hiduk who was born at Os. Curtowni Zytyn, Poland. He is predeceased by his loving wife Mary and his parents. Walter is survived by his sons Terry (Janice), Richard (Shari), his sisters Helen, Anne (Stan), his grandchildren: Matthew, Kristine, David and Stuart, his sister-in-law Anne, brother-in-law Joe (Patricia) and nieces and nephews. In 1928, Walter's parents, with two-year-old Walter, emigrated from Eastern Europe with the hopes of building a new and prosperous life in Canada. As a young man, Walter worked as an electrician with Herbert and Son Electrical Contractors. Through hard work and determination, he rose to become superintendent at Herbert and Son and eventually became a part owner in the business. Much of the innovative apartment and commercial electrical panel designs (Landmark Hotel) of the 1960s-80s can be attributed to Walter and Herbert and Son. His retirement years were devoted to loving and caring for his most precious gift: his grandchildren. No distance was too great or weather condition too severe for "Papa" to miss a soccer, basketball, football or rugby game. Nor did he ever miss a music or dance concert or a family function. We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Drs. Zamfir and Paletta, the nursing staff and health care staff at the Royal Columbian Hospital floors 5S and 6N. Our world will forever be greatly changed with your passing; we miss you deeply. A private celebration of Walter's life will be held at a future date.
