Michael BUCHANAN Obituary
1932 - 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Murray Buchanan at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, British Columbia on January 3, 2017. He will be greatly missed by his loving partner, Rita. Survived by his two sons, Paul Buchanan of Abbotsford, BC, Greg Buchanan of Denver, Colorado. Three grandchildren, Cole, Sterling and Kendall, his twin brother, Neil Buchanan (Angela) of Toronto, ON. His sister, Patricia Hodgins of Kanata, ON passed away on June 7, 2016. Michael attended St. Patrick's College in Ottawa and St. Michael's College in Toronto. Michael graduated from University of Michigan in 1957 with a Business Administration Degree. All American in Hockey in 1955 and was on the NCAA Championship teams in 1955 and 1956. Michael played during the 1951-52 NHL season with the Chicago Blackhawks and 2 games in the American Hockey League for the St. Louis Flyers. He played two seasons for the Fort Wayne Komets in Indiana. Michael joined Travelers Insurance Company in Toronto in 1958. In 1980 he started his own consulting firm, "Mike Buchanan & Associates Ltd." in Vancouver. He retired in 2002. He is a member of the Arbutus Club in Vancouver, where he coached hockey. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Memorial Park, 14831 28 Avenue, Surrey, BC V4P 1P3.

Our deepest condolences Rita, Paul and Greg. Memories of Uncle Mike have been running through my mind since I heard the news. I always enjoyed our visits in Ottawa and Vancouver when I was there on business. We're in South America and unable to attend his service however you are in our thoughts and prayers. Cindy and Paul.
