I just happened to google Harvey right now & learned of his passing. I'm sorry for your loss. I used to work the gondola at Grouse Mountain some 18yrs ago when I was 25yrs old when I met Harvey. The reason I googled searched him this morning is because a mature friend of mine expressed interest in doing the Grouse Grind for the first time. I immediately looked at my friend & said, "HARVEY NELSON!" I then told him what an inspiration he was & for a +60yr old (at the time) what a STRONG & POWERFUL man he was! And not to mention he was ALWAYS smiling!
Harvey made a true impact on me & stuck with me enough to remember his full name nearly 20yrs later. He truly embodied living your life to the fullest, pushing and challenging yourself to the limits!
You will never be forgotten Harvey & your legacy lives on.
Sincerely,
Graham Gee
Ps. OH! I also said to my friend, "And his calves were HUGE like coconuts!"

My condolences to the family. I new Harvey for about a decade while we were both members of the social group TGIF. He was always a gentleman and well likes in the club. We all admired his dedication to the Grouse Grind...even as he advanced in age. A life well lived. Heidi Solanki

One of the most amazing focused people I have met. He loved the outdoors
and introducing his students and friends to get out and just "do it".
One of my most endearing memories of Harvey was after he had run the grouse
grind he would stop at my house covered in sweat and sometimes blood. He
kept his favorite coffee in the cupboard and would proceed to make it. He also
loved to join us at TGIF dances charming the ladies.

Harvey was an long time, active member of the Inside Edge Club. He was well known for his marathons and had many friends in the club.
On behalf of the Inside Edge Club and all that knew him, we will miss his enthusiasm and friendly manner.

Harvey, or Mr. Nelsen in earlier days, was a good friend of mine. He was my grade 12 Geography teacher at Langley High and more recently, a fellow member of the Inside Edge Club where we spent many a day camping, hiking, snowshoeing, and sitting around the Whistler Lodge. You will always be in my thoughts, Harvey.
