LOEWEN, Allen James
May 11, 1952 - October 16, 2013
It is with great sadness that Al's family announces his passing this life after a tragic accident. Al Loewen was born in Matsqui, BC to Betty and Abe (deceased) Loewen and had two brothers, Ken and Chuck. Al married Anne Barton, in 1975, and he was a loving father to their three children, Aaron, Adrienne (Joe) Melissen and Adam (Lynda) Loewen. He was a treasured "Papa" to Adrienne and Joe's children, Mariama, Miles, and William. Al graduated from UBC in 1976 and taught PE and Math at Sands Junior Secondary and Delta Senior Secondary where he coached many different sports teams. Al's two passions in life were his family and his faith. A Celebration of Al's Life will be held at Peace Portal Alliance Church at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22nd. The church is located on the southwest corner of King George Boulevard and 152nd Street in Surrey, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the TRF of BC (Transplant Research Foundation of BC) E-mail: [email protected]

The gift that your husband, dad, poppa gave to the children he taught is amazing. We are lost in grief and feel the pain and shock of his sudden passing. Mr Loewen taught our four kids, he understood them and accepted them. He inspired and was always a teacher who would laugh with them and challenge them to be more! He cared and it was so apparent in our many discussions that his family was the most important ing to him. He was a true gift to our world and we so appreciate that you shared him with us. He will be deeply missed! Take care The Cuthbert Family - Kerry, Bruce, Jens, Keir, Tineke and Kajsa

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Al's accident and passing. Knowing Al from having played men's basketball years ago, to occasionally bumping into him at various churches and events to having him be one of our kids teachers, Al always presented himself as a kind, intelligent and godly man. We spoke just a few weeks ago at Village Church...it was so nice to see him again and get caught up. We pray that you will feel the comfort of God's love and His strong arms surrounding your family.

My heart is heavy for you Anne, Aaron, Adrienne and Adam. As I reflect I know that I was honoured to know someone who was always kind, thoughtful and so wonderful. We ran into him not long ago and both Ken and I remarked that we love him so much...he is always and ever the same, after 30+ years. I smile remembering him and how much he loved you all. It was evident in everything he did. Our prayers are hugs are with you.

Hard to hold back tears here - make that impossible. So glad we briefly got to catch up with Al just under a year ago. So many great memories of spending many good times with the two of you, serving together at Village Hills, lots of laughs, going away to Whistler, having children together, watching them grow, sharing life's joys and pains. Al was always the rock, never uttering a negative word about anyone, always glad to see you. Although we haven't seen you guys for years now, Al will always be remembered.

Dear Anne & Family

Anne, Aaron, Adrienne and Joe (and M,M,W), Adam and Lynda,

My heart aches with you as you grieve the loss of your husband, dad and papa.

One day 'every sad thing will become untrue' but right now it seems unbearable. I have many fond memories of Al and I appreciated his easy-going nature. I especially enjoyed our time together at Shuswap this summer.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am praying that His Light will shine in the darkness and that His peace will bring you comfort.

Dear Anne
From our perspective this is all so tragic. We, along with the rest of our family are feeling the deep grief of losing Allen. He was an outstanding husband to you, wonderful father to Aaron, Adrienne and Adam and a loved granddad to his grandchildren. But our strongest memory of Al will always be that he was a man of God; one who exemplified the grace of God in his life and could proclaim with the Psalmist, "I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart.". So from God's perspective, He has welcomed home one of His choice servants - there will be rejoicing in heaven.
