BOOTH, Dorothy
June 16, 1924 - December 16, 2012
Dorothy died peacefully with a sweet smile December 16 in Deltaview Life Enrichment Centre. Dorothy was known for her warmth and the unconditional love she extended to all throughout her life. Born in rural Saskatchewan, she enjoyed "stooking" the wheat fields and farm life. As a child she learned to play the violin and piano which sparked a lifelong passion for music. Dorothy married her beloved Gordon in 1947 and they moved to Richmond where she was a busy homemaker with four children. Dorothy always made time to play music at home, in the praise and worship team at church and in the community with the Lulu Island Silver Strings band. Her abiding faith in God was a continual source of comfort and strength and a highlight of her life was a visit to the "Holy Land." A very devoted mother, Dorothy was always there to listen and offer gentle support. With two children who struggled with mental illness, Dorothy strove to find all available resources including travelling to New York City to visit Fountain House which has in recent years become a model of mental health care all over the world. Although Dorothy developed Alzheimer's disease in later years, she remained a source of joy for all staff and residents. She loved to sing and continually radiated love with her beautiful smile. It was as if God's light shone through her. Truly she was an angel on earth who is now playing her violin in heaven. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Gordon, children Bob and Gloria. She is survived by siblings Isabel, Lillian, Carman; daughters Shirley (Ted), Kathy (Fred); grandchildren Bonnie, Paul (Kim), Michael, Tom; great-grandchildren Kya, Ace and other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Deltaview Baycrest staff and music therapist Sidney for their wonderful care. Rev. Stuart Appenheimer and the congregation at Brighouse United Church offered enduring spiritual support. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 29, 11 a.m. followed by lunch at Brighouse United Church, 8151 Bennett Road, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to VGH/UBC Hospital Foundation for the new Mental Health facility or to Coast Mental Health. VGH, UBC and "Coast" provided wonderful care for Bob and Gloria and for this Dorothy was always thankful.
