BEGLAW, Louis Reinhold C.D.

February 9, 1963 - September 16, 2013

With broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved, son, brother, husband, father, friend and colleague, Police Constable Louis Reinhold Beglaw. Louis passed away on September 16, 2013 in West Vancouver, doing what he did best, "serving his community and country".

Louis was predeceased by his father Clifford. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Imelda (McTighe); brother, Curtis; his beloved wife, Sarah (Blackstock) and his two beautiful children, daughter Evelyn and son Erik.

Louis was born on February 9, 1963 in Calgary, Alberta and raised in Burnaby, British Columbia. He graduated from Burnaby South Senior Secondary in 1981, and after graduation attended Douglas College, pursuing and achieving a Criminology Diploma in 1992.

In 1989 Louis joined the Canadian Army Militia with The Royal Westminster Regiment. He worked his way up the ranks as an officer to become a Major and took great pride in being the current Officer Commanding A Company. He also formerly served as the Deputy Commanding Officer and was well respected by the rank and file. Louis served a tour of duty in Bosnia in 2002 with the Multi National Divisional HQ as the Deputy Chief/Planner for the Joint Military Affairs Section.

In 1992 he was approached and recruited by Canada Customs where he served as an Inspector at both the Vancouver Metro District and the Pacific Highway District until 2003.

Louis had many passions and one of his dreams was to become a police officer. He achieved that dream in 2003 by joining the West Vancouver Police Department (Police Recruit Class #98, Justice Institute of British Columbia). In 2007, Louis became a police service dog handler; he and his faithful partner and companion, police service dog 'Capone', went on to become one of WVPD's finest dog teams.

A memorial service will be held at the Queen's Park Arena in New Westminster, B.C. (access via 1st Street 3rd Avenue) on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. The service is open to all friends, family, military personnel, emergency responders and members of the law enforcement community.

Special thanks to Sgt. Tim Kravjanski, Cpl. Tracey Nelson, Cst. Brock Harrington, Cst. Dave Noon, the responding members of West Vancouver Fire and Rescue, BC Ambulance Service and the emergency room personnel at Lions Gate Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Hey Louis, you made going to work at Canada Customs a great experience. Your dry wit was never ending and I still smile remembering those times and your professionalism and your convictions is something that should be taught. So Sad for your family, gone to soon RIP.

Only time will lessen the pain of loss. Eventually only the good experiences with your son, brother, husband, father will remain. Cherish those good remembrances.

Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I enjoyed Louis's good humour working with him at Douglas POE and at various K-9 events over the years.
