Born September 16, 1924 in Edenwold, Saskatchewan. Passed away suddenly on August 17, 2013 at Lions Gate Hospital, just a month before his 89th birthday. Survived by his loving wife of 63 years Jean, and by his daughter, Michelle Mydske (David), two grandsons Matthew (Ai) and Christopher (Michelle), two great- granddaughters Alisa and Kaylie (who were the joy of his life), his brothers Albert and Gordon (Hazel), his sister Evelyn Jenzen and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Phillip, Erwin, Oswald and Wallace. Bob served in the Canadian Army in Europe from 1943 to 1946 with the Perth Infantry Regiment, Princess Louise Fusilliers, Fifth Canadian Division and was in combat throughout the Italian campaign. He spent most of his working career in the forest industry working in various management positions at Fraser Mills in Maillardville, retiring in 1982. Bob enjoyed a long, happy and healthy retirement travelling and spending time with his family and many friends. He was an avid gardener and known for having a lawn that was like a golf green. He also had a great sense of humour and loved a good joke. Bob was a member of the congregation at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in New Westminster. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday August 23rd at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 701 Sixth Street, New Westminster, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon, P.O. Box 3632 Stn Terminal, Vancouver, BC, V6B 3Y8 would be appreciated.
