CHAMBERS, William Joseph (Bill)
May 9, 1924 - June 21, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Bill Chambers, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Norma, children Linda (Les) Reimer and Bob (Margaret) Chambers, grandchildren, Gordon and Bill Reimer, Nicola, Scott and Douglas Chambers, sister, Mary McDonald. Bill was born in Portland, Oregon, where his dad was attending dental school. They moved to Revelstoke, BC where Bill spent his childhood enjoying ski jumping and other outdoor activities.The family moved to New Westminster, where Bill graduated from the Duke of Connaught High School. Bill spent 1 year at UBC before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served from 1944 to 1945. After leaving the service, Bill enrolled in dentistry in Portland. Upon graduation, he set up practice in New Westminster where he was a well-respected dentist for 45 years. Following his retirement in 1995, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and playing golf at the Vancouver Golf Club where he was the longest serving member, having joined in 1942. Bill ended his journey peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the George Derby Centre in Burnaby. The family wishes to thank the staff at George Derby for their caring and kindness. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Queens Avenue United Church, 529 Queens Avenue, New Westminster. Reception following at the Vancouver Golf Club, 771 Austin Avenue, Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to George Derby Centre, 7550 Cumberland Street, Burnaby V3N 3X5 or the Alzheimer's Society of British Columbia, 300-828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver V5Z 1E2.
