Dr. Alfred Henry (Alf) Heaslip
With great sadness we announce the passing of Alf on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the age of 88 surrounded by family. Alf is survived by his loving wife Donna of 27 years, his two daughters Janet Upton- Noot (John) and Donna Lysell (Allan), his two grandsons Ryan Cox (Danielle) and Tyler Cox (Julie), six great-grandchildren (Lily, Connor, Audrey, Carter, Elle, and Jasper), his step- children Curt Shepard (Helaine), Sheri Shepard (Tony Bardsley) and Dean Shepard (Julie) and his step-grandchildren Taylor, Kate, Nicola, Corey, Grady, Jackson, Cole, and Will. Alf was predeceased by his two brothers, Don and Norman and his first wife Elaine. The youngest son of Thomas and May Heaslip, Alf was born August 23, 1924 in Victoria, BC. He graduated from Victoria High School and attended Victoria College and then the University of Toronto where he graduated at the top of his class in Optometry. Alf also served in the Army during the Second World War. Alf began a thriving career as an Optometrist owning and operating the Optical Department in multiple T. Eaton Co. store locations. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Gyro Club of Vancouver where he served as President in 1965-66. Alf and Donna spent many happy years together, golfing, enjoying cruising holidays, life in both the Bahamas and Palm Desert area and at their home in Vancouver. Alf was an avid golfer and bridge player, always up for a game with his Shaughnessy buddies. His family and friends will miss his quiet sense of humour and quick wit. The family wish to extend their deep gratitude to Alf's long time physician Dr. I. Perlman, the Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre, the VGH Cardiac Function Clinic, the compassionate home caregivers and thank the excellent, caring Doctors and staff at Marion Hospice for helping to make Alf comfortable during his final days. A Celebration of Alf's Life will take place at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club (4300 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver) on Sunday December 2, 2012 from 2-4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice are gratefully appreciated.
