Born in Crikvenica, Croatia and passing away peacefully November 23, 2012, aged 88 in Coquitlam, BC. He is remembered lovingly by his wife Mary (Marija) of 62 years, his daughters Linda with son John and daughter Deborah (Doug) and Denise with her husband Ray and their son Jeffrey and two daughters Lacey (Jarod) and Leah. Also to miss his big hugs are his four great grandchildren. Zlatan is also survived by his sister Matilda (Pete) and many nephews and nieces, family relations and friends. "Slats" fished for many years on the high line seiners of the west coast and his stories of those days were told often and that the "fishing" days were a favourite with him. When he retired from commercial fishing he turned to construction for many years and well into his 70's. Slats enjoyed landscaping, gardening and kibitzing with those around him that could appreciate his sense of humour as well as taking daily walks at New West Quay until his health began to fail. Slats and Mary enjoyed travelling in their younger years and in retirement returned to Croatia as their last trip. Slats and Mary resided in Port Coquitlam for many years in their house they built for retirement. Zlatan will rest peacefully at Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, BC and private services to be held upon request.
