Margaret Joan (Wood) COOK June 23, 1920 - Dec. 14, 2012 Slipped away peacefully with family by her side, of complications following a stroke. Predeceased by her husband Bob in 1992, she leaves five children: sons Jim (Sharon Kelley) and Conal, daughters Lin Polson (Jim), Roberta (Kent Simpson) and Suzanne, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her sister Kate Toews, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The Guest Book is expired.
Joan was born in Sheffield, England, and came to Canada with her family in 1925, living chiefly in Prince Albert and Saskatoon. For the first six years of their married life, Joan and Bob were separated by his Army service in Europe during WWII. On his return in 1945, they moved to Vancouver where, after a couple of years in the Old Hotel Vancouver, they settled in the East End. While bringing up her five children, Joan was active in the Renfrew School PTA, and other groups in the Renfrew Heights area. She also worked briefly at the Vancouver Public and Simon Fraser University libraries. In her later years, Joan particularly enjoyed the companionship and activities at the Renfrew-Collingwood Seniors' Centre.
Mother was the dearly-loved hub of our family, and we are already missing her very much.
At her request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the giver's favourite charity would be welcome.
