1924 - 2012
Ruth Louise Brenton (née Musgrave) passed away after a brief illness at the age of 88 at Royal Columbian Hospital with her beloved children at her side. Born in 1924 in Regina, SK, she was the second of three girls to Jean and Charlie. During the war, Ruth fell head over heels for a handsome young Air Force tail gunner from Salt Spring Island, BC - Ernie Brenton. They were married in 1947. While living in Pender Harbour they had their first child, a son. Later, they moved to Vancouver where their daughter was born. For many years, Ruth worked as a bookkeeper at Ernie's marine repair shop. They eventually moved to Port Coquitlam where they spent many happy years. Upon Ernie's retirement, they moved to Chilliwack and were able to devote more time to travelling around North America in their RV, which they both enjoyed immensely. Ruth was predeceased by Ernie in 2007. 'GG', as she was known to her 7 great-grandchildren, was famous for her annual headstands. Her family delighted in teasing her to evoke her finger shake: "Now cut that out!" Ruth was a card shark, a spoiler of her pet dachshunds, a gin and tonic connoisseur, a Daddy's girl, a gracious hostess, an avid game show viewer, a generous sharer of sweets (who never let the candy jar get empty), a well-dressed lady, and a great big flirt. Above all though, she was Ernie Brenton's sweetheart. Ruth was adored by her family, friends, and neighbours. She is survived by her loving children Bruce (Suzanne) and Carol (David), her sisters Leila and Jean, her brothers- in-law Brian and Pat, her granddaughters Natalie (Mike), Laura(Pat), Shannon, and Holly (Rob), and by her great-grandchildren Suzanna, Maxwell, Jasmine, Abbi , Tatum, Lola, and Gabe . In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to charity will be very appreciated by the family.
