The Guest Book is expired.
97 years (Aug. 9, 1915 - Dec. 4, 2012)
Survived by his wife: Amelia; 7 children: Marlene, Gary, Maryann, Barbara, Martin Jr., Jim, Greg; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. Widely known for his warm heart, cheery nature, and generous spirit, Martin Sr. had a rare talent for befriending people from all walks of life. He was a strong advocate for the physically disabled, traveling across BC to visit and counsel people with spinal cord injuries and pushing for greater wheelchair accessibility in the community. An avid hunter, he taught the Core Hunting Program at the Totem Rifle & Revolver Club and the Sapperton Fish & Game Club. He also coached competitive target shooting teams (several of which went on to become champions), helping those with paraplegia to adapt their wheelchairs so they too could compete. In recognition of his many years of service to the community, he was awarded the Governor General's Commemorative Medal in 1992 and the British Columbia Paraplegic Association's Award of Distinction in 1994. A small service commemorating his life was held on Dec. 8th, followed by a tribute hunt on Dec. 9th. He will be missed by the many whose lives he touched.
