GREGG, Harold Martin
February 19, 1927 - February 3, 2013
At UBC Hospital on Sunday, February 3, 2013 in his 86th year. Harold was predeceased by Beverley (2011) of 60 years and son-in-law Sam Lim (2005). He is sadly missed by daughter Debbie, sons Douglas (Loree) and Bruce (Charlotte French). Dad is already greatly missed by grandchildren Justin, Rebecca and Patrick. Harold was born in Vancouver attending King Edward High School where he met Bev and graduated from the University of British Columbia where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was also a commissioned officer in the Canadian Army where he obtained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1953. Harold and Bev settled with the children in Coquitlam and resided there for more than 20 years. One of his proudest achievements was his involvement in the creation of the Coquitlam Public Library. He served on the Library Board from 1974-1984 and received a Certificate of Merit from the City of Coquitlam and the library in 1984. We have many fond memories of skiing on our side yard where Dad had built a ski hill for practice, skating at Como Lake and playing badminton on the court in our driveway. Harold spent his career in the construction industry working with a number of large companies. His favourite stories often revolved around landmarks in and around Vancouver including Simon Fraser University, the Woodward skywalk and the Second Narrows Bridge. Our family was fortunate to have travelled extensively. Harold and Bev continued to travel world wide including a long stint on the Alaska cruise ships where he lectured on the BC history. He also volunteered for some time at both the UBC Museum of Anthropology and the Vancouver Museum where he spent many hours assisting with the cataloguing of historical artifacts. We would all like to remember "happy Harold," a witty, impeccably dressed gentleman. At 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, his birthday, a service will be held at St. Philip's Anglican Church, 3737 West 27th Avenue, Vancouver. If desired, donations can be made to the Coquitlam Public Library in Harold's name.
