TATE, Eleanor Florence
Eleanor Tate, born March 10, 1922 in Alert Bay, BC, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on February 4, 2013. Her father (John) died of pancreatic cancer when she was four years old, so her early years were spent growing up with her mother (Marguerite), brother (Bruce) and cousins in Vancouver, BC. She went on to post secondary education at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. She was an English Professor from 1952 to 1989 and touched the lives of thousands of University students in Seattle, Hong Kong and China (Fujian), having to leave China because of the unfolding events in the Tiananmen Square Uprising. Her love of teaching and educating others, and her dedication to her students, showed through her work. Teaching also suited her love for world travel. She enjoyed having the summer months off to journey to as many foreign countries as she could manage but always saved one month of her summer vacations to spend time with her brother and his family in Kaslo, BC. Upon retirement in 1989 she returned to Richmond, BC to be close to family and friends. Even in retirement Eleanor continued to help students further their education by setting up Scholarship Funds around the lower mainland. She placed God at the centre of every aspect of her life and fervently prayed for her students, friends, families and those who entered into her life. She is lovingly remembered by her brother and the families of his children, David, Robert, Stephen and Jeanie. All those who knew her are warmly welcome to bring their memories of Eleanor to a celebration of her life at Mountain View Cemetery, 5455 Fraser St, Vancouver, BC V5W 2Z3 on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Eleanor has asked that donations be made to Canadian Baptist Missions in her memory. This can be done by visiting: http://www.cbmin.org/cbm/support- cbm. Please indicate in the comment section of the online donation page that the donation is in memory of Eleanor Tate.
