A very late addition to these memories. Frits and I were friends for about 4 decades, first meeting in St. James' choir and over the years involved in many other shenanigans together. His faith was fiercely strong, his talent unique, his sense of humour quirky and always at the ready, his friendship loyal and his generosity abundant. I felt right from the beginning that it was a privilege to know him. We shared lots of good times at the apartment on Shanghai Alley, he came to visit us in Pittsburgh for an extended period and kept in touch by phone and in visits to Vancouver thereafter. Frits had a way of enabling remarkable things to happen once his creative juices started flowing; I remember especially the years of "Canterbury Fairs" at St. James,' largely a product of his fecund imagination and creativity. Frits, you had an impact on everyone around you; for myself, you were a wonderful example of how to live simply and joyously.

I'm glad I got to meet him over a number of visits here in Vancouver; he was kind, gracious, and generous with his time, sharing lots of treasures from his life's work.

Fits was a valuable presence wherever he went, the smile, bustle and chuckle. He loved music, art, the Church and his friends. Of course he was a great designer and producer of events, but for me his steady flow of Christmas cards with their medieval themes, often cleverly incorporating aspects of local, familiar settings, some new ones each year, gave a stamp to his cheery personality. Likewise, he moved through those settings himself, bringing a freshness with his creative anachronisms, his interest in the depths of our culture and with a spirit that was infectious and unashamed of making us smile. A remarkable man of his subjects and place. Thank you fits for all you brought to us. Gordon Atkinson

I will always treasure the time spent with Frits putting together the Canterbury Fayre in the basement of St. James Church.

Such a unique and talented person. One of my favorite memories was visiting Fritz when he lived in Shanghai Alley in China Town. A strong and devote Christian with unshakable faith in the Lord has gone to rest. I will miss him.

"Be of good cheer" will always remind me of Frits. A talented and creative artist and a loyal friend.

A true artist. I was privileged to work with him on a book years ago. Condolences to family and friends
