A. Marie "Dolly" Kohler, 80, of Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 11:15 p.m. at Quincy United Methodist Home surrounded by her family. She had been in failing health for several months.
Dolly was born Aug. 26, 1933, in Washington Township, Pa., the first daughter of the late James K. and Nellie Josephine (Eyler) Knepper.
A 1951 graduate of Washington Township High School, she married Louis W. "Bill" Kohler at his parents' home at 522 Maple St. in Waynesboro on June 24, 1960. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2008.
After graduation, she worked for the United Telephone Co. in Waynesboro, including several years as a supervisor. After her children started school, she worked for several years at the Waynesboro Knitting Mill.
For several decades, she provided child care for many Waynesboro families in her home on South Broad Street, earning the nickname "Aunt Dolly." She also loved cooking for her family, and maintained a family tradition of making donuts on Shrove Tuesday until her mid-70s.
Dolly was an avid reader and loved her grandchildren.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Waynesboro.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard "Dick" Knepper; a son-in-law, J. William Fridinger; and a stepgrandson, Kevin Bumbaugh.
She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Warner (husband Ritchie), of Waynesboro; and three sons, William K. Kohler (wife Karin), Bradley A. Kohler (wife Dawn) and James A. Kohler (wife Robyn), all of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren, Sean Fridinger, Allyson Fridinger, Bryce Kohler, Devin Kohler, Madison Kohler, Elleora Kohler and Jackson Kohler; one stepgrandson, Justin Warner; and one great-grandson, Acen Earhart. She also is survived by a brother, R. Eugene Knepper of Waynesboro, and two sisters, Beverly Roberge of Waynesboro and Yvonne Grey of Colorado. She also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac St., with the Rev. Mark Shover officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.
The family will greet family and friends on Monday, April 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro and one hour prior to the service, Tuesday morning, in the church.
