Charles W. Hintermyer, 81, a resident of Providence Place, Chambersburg, Pa., and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, in Quincy Village.
Born June 9, 1932, in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles V. and Anna (Lisuski) Hintermyer.
Mr. Hintermyer was a graduate of Harrisburg High School with the Class of 1950. He later received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Millersville State Teacher's College with the Class of 1958.
He served in the United States Navy
during the Korean Conflict
In early years, Mr. Hintermyer taught Biology in the public school system. He spent the remainder of his working career as a civilian employee with the Department of the Army, Office of Personnel Management, primarily at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa.
He is survived by three children, Charles W. Hintermyer II of Marion, Pa., Gretchen H. Walter of Gilbertsville, Pa., and Alan F. Hintermyer of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his longtime companion, Reine Sadler of Chambersburg; and his niece, Patricia A. Bowen of Harrisburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Bowen; and his brother, Frederick Hintermyer.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro where a time of remembrance of Mr. Hintermyer's life will begin at 2 p.m.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
